About
Dalisay.net - an outlet on the web for me to express myself. (In other words, a personal blog.) It’s also a handy place to keep track of funny moments or cool quotes! Right now I’m working on getting into the habit of being aware of interesting things that happen in my day but eventually I’ll also be writing about being Filipino-American and the cultural differences I notice. There is a lot, really, and I intend to write it all in a series I’ll call Non-Native.
Dalisay is the Filipino word for pure, fresh, innocent, etc. I chose it first, because it’s a positive Filipino word, and second because it’s an adjective that some would use for me (though whether they really mean “purely silly” is anyone’s guess).
I’m still working on my blog’s tagline, but for now I like the contrast of “So not dalisay.” Short and to the point!

About Me
Currently I’m known as Allison Pilapil although I’ve been known by various other names, depending on the geographical location and whether it’s offline or online. I love to read but I can be very lazy about it only because when I start to get absorbed into a book, I absolutely must finish it as soon as possible. Once, I read a book until dawn the next morning and paid for it with an eye twitch that lasted the whole day. Needless to say, I try not to do that anymore.
I work at a cool unnamed company, one of those fun, fast-paced places that is always changing. It’s a fantabulous place to work. I can actually play games there without feeling guilty. I don’t exactly game for a living, which works out because when gaming starts to seem like work, then it loses that fun factor. I like to game to relax, zone out, or collect MEDALS at online sites. I love my medals. They’re shiny. Some games I love? Dream Chronicles, Diamond Detective, Final Fantasy 7. I used to love Ragnarok when I lived in the Philippines but I don’t have time to play MMORPGs right now. However, I’m currently considering learning WoW under the tutelage of my cousin.
One fact that seems to interest people here is that I’ve lived in 2 countries. What most people don’t think about is the amount of culture shock involved. I lived in the States long enough to miss it and I lived in the Philippines long enough to care about it. In either country, I am distinct. I’m not quite Filipino, and not quite American either. Go figure.
There isn’t much else to me. Actually there is, but About pages that ramble on too long are no fun, so this one stops here.

Site Stuff
I’m always curious about what other people use to make their site tick. I get to discover neat things that way. This particular site is run on the ever useful Wordpress. I could run it off pieced together PHP but that would be tedious and an unnecessary source of headaches.
As awesome as Wordpress is, there are still some features it doesn’t have. I’ve pimped this version of Wordpress with some plugins I thought were a) fun, b) useful, or c) both.
- Sociable -Social bookmarking plugin because you never know what people might find bookmark-worthy.
- Google Sitemap Generator - Being nice to Google is always a good thing.
- Ultimate Tag Warrior - Because I love tags to bits! And tag clouds are fun to look at. Beginners be warned - the plugin is easy to get working, but it might take some theme modding to get tags showing up the way you want them to.
