In favor of C&C

During a weekly meeting, one of the ops was talking about his plan for switching over to a new server. He wanted to do it in one swoop, giving prior warning to users and then cutting them all off. An engineer suggested a seemingly seamless solution where users would be placed on the new server as they logged in, until all the users were moved over to the new server.

The op nodded in agreement, saying he had thought of that method but, “I thought it might create chaos and confusion,” he paused, added, “which I’m in favor of, but I thought this way would be less emotionally upsetting.”

So I paraphrased, but I have had co-workers who talk like people do in books. It’s so cool. I find this fact funny because one of my friends at another job used to laugh at the way I talked and the slightly formal words I used. (That’s my 3rd-world English flashing though sometimes.) If only she could hear these people. The words they speak are so big that they don’t qualify as fifty-cent words — they’re more like a dollar coin words.

I need to start carrying a dictionary around with me. Strike that. I need to get wireless on my laptop so I can carry that around and look up definitions online.
